CRO0001 Thiophilic Affinity / Mixed-Mode MPY Resin
Product Overview Thiophilic Affinity / Mixed-Mode MPY Resin are thiophilic affinity resins prepared by coupling the sulfur-containing compound 2-mercaptopyridine (MPY) to agarose gel microspheres. The MPY group contains both sulfur and pyridine atoms, enabling thiophilic and hydrophobic interactions with target molecules, and is therefore classified as a multimodal resin. Thiophilic affinity relies on electron donor–acceptor interactions for the separation and purification of biomolecules. This interaction strengthens at high salt and weakens at low salt, similar to hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
The two resins also differ in ligand density: High-Performance Thiophilic Affinity MPY Resin has a ligand density of approximately 3.5 mg/mL, while Thiophilic Affinity / Mixed-Mode MPY Resin has a ligand density of approximately 2 mg/mL, offering different affinity options. High-Performance Thiophilic Affinity MPY Resin is generally used for supercoiled plasmid DNA purification, whereas Thiophilic Affinity / Mixed-Mode MPY Resin is used for IgM and IgY purification. In many cases, both resins can achieve the same purification objective.
