This silylation reagent reacts quickly with hydroxyls and carboxylic acids but not with amines, and is particularly well suited in multiderivatization schemes for compounds containing both hydroxyl and amine groups. TMSI may be used to derivatize alcohols, phenols, organic acids, hormones, glycols, nucleotides, etc.
